Track Workout

I have this friend idol, Laurie. She's an amazing runner, oh and, mother of four. Where I choose to stick my kids in childcare at a gym while running on a treadmill, she does crazy things like running at ungodly hours and pushing a huge double stroller while maintaining a 7 minute mile. She's really an inspiration.

Well, Elyse has kind of put a snafu in my typical running routine. See, she can't go to childcare at the gym until she's three months old. So, I've been experimenting with getting my runs in other ways. Yesterday I took a page from Laurie's book and attempted a "track" workout. I loaded up the jogging stroller and they boys bikes and headed to the track near Grandmother Ruthie's house.

Matthew did great, lapping me several times.
Seth was less enthusiastic about riding. He took several breaks to pick flowers, draw in the dirt, and play with Grandmother Ruthie.
Elyse was perfect . . .
I was able to get in 3 miles. I would have been able to get in more if I weren't so darn slow. Baby steps. I'm sure it'll get better. Maybe the boys will get better at it too. At least until I can check Elyse into the kids klub at the gym in eight weeks. Not that I'm counting . . .

I'll never forget the time I went running with you and Erin Jones, and I was able to run 2 miles without stopping, and I was so proud of myself. YOU were my very first running idol! I'm still slow (probably still a turtle compared to your slow), but I have come a long way since then. This morning I did a 30-minute home workout and then left the house for a quick jog--and when I got home AT 6:45 A.M. (had to be home before Jeff left for work), Jeff asked, "How was your run?" "Good...but I wasn't able to go very far, only 2 miles". It's just fun to reflect on my first time at 2 miles compared to today. You still inspire me! Thanks for posting about your determination--running so soon after your baby was born...you go girl!
