Denist, Chores, Walker, and 7 Months

I don't know how I let almost a month go by. I guess we've been busy. Or, we haven't been busy at all, and therefore I've had nothing to post. Regardless, I figured it's about time.

Matthew went to the dentist last Friday. I'm ashamed to admit that it was his first time. He was cavity-free so I guess I shouldn't feel that bad. We went to a pediatric dentist about 25 minutes away. There was another pediatric dentist on our dental plan just a couple minutes away, but he didn't have a web site, so he was definitely out. What can I say, websites are important to me. Besides, this dental office was adjacent to a toy store and I knew that a new toy would be a perfect bribe.

I had talked the dentist visit all week, so by the time his appointment came, Matthew was really excited to go. We had looked at the site and I'd shown Matthew all the pictures of the office and tried to explain all the things that they would be doing. I had also pointed out the toy store in one of the pictures. Well, it all paid off because Matthew was a perfect angel for the visit. I was amazed that he sat so still through all the x-rays and the cleaning. I think x-rays are really uncomfortable. I wanted to take pictures, but my camera batteries were dead. But he did look awfully adorable in the big chair with his boots, head phones for the movie playing above, and sunglasses all on. Next time I'll make sure the battery is charged.

I ended up being really, really happy with our dentist office choice. They showed me so great tricks for cleaning and flossing his teeth and ever since Matthew has been excited to brush and floss his teeth multiple times a day. They were also very complementary about the job that we were doing keeping his teeth clean. It was nice to hear, because I honestly didn't think we were doing the greatest job. It's so great to have found a dentist that we really liked.

Lately, Matthew has really hit his stride when it comes to his morning chores. Every morning he cleans the toilets. I generally wouldn't advise to have your four-year-old clean toilets, but he picked the chore, he loves it, and he actually does a pretty good job. We recently added putting silverware away to his morning chore routine. The other day Jon was chuckling in the kitchen. He commented, "It's just funny to open the silverware drawer and see it so disheveled." Matthew does a great job, but it just looks a little different when I put it away. You see what I mean?

Last Saturday we out away the swing and bouncer and got out the walker and booster seat. Seth's feet barely touch the ground, but he's getting better with the walker. He seems to enjoy it most times. He especially likes it when Matthew takes him for rides. He also likes to make me panic by b-lining for the stairs. It's time to get out the gates.

Yesterday Seth turned seven months old. Time has gone so quickly and he's gotten so big. He's eating solids really well. He can really pack the food away! He'll eat pretty much anything that I feed him. I think that introducing solids has also helped him sleep longer at night. I know the research says otherwise, but I don't think a full tummy hurts!

Seth also really enjoys his baths. I love to watch him play and study his toys so carefully. I'm pretty sure that he is going to be another smart boy.

The girls and I have enjoyed looking at these pictures. Wow--cleaning the toilets?! I still haven't introduced Annalise to this; I think I will now! Her job is the silverware; I don't think I've had an organized drawer in years. You are a very good mom; you're so consistant, considerate and insightful.

Seth is getting so big! What a cutie. I'm so glad that the experience with the dentist was a good one, too. That sets the precident. :) You'll have to share some of the brushing/flossing tricks you learned.

Ju, I need to get the name of the dentist. We need to take Lucy in and it sounds like you found a good one!
