Happy Birthday to Jon and Early Morning Capers

Happy 28th Birthday to Jon! He's finally as old as me; at least for a little while. I am so grateful to have him as a husband. He is such hard working, dedicated man. I don't know how many people know this, but Jon gets up at 4:10 am to get to a demanding job early enough that he can come home and spend enough time with his family. Last night I tried to convince him that maybe he should take a break for his birthday. Finally, he relented and decided to take the later bus; he got to sleep in until 4:40 am! I hope he has a great day!

Lately Matthew's morning routine has gone something like this: He wakes up at about 6:10-6:30 to go potty. I tell him that I'll meet him in the bathroom (if I'm not feeding Seth) and sometimes I actually do (although he really doesn't need any help). After that I allow him to get in bed with me until about 7:00.

Most mornings he'll read me a book or we'll play "I spy" by the light of Henry, his glow worm. To be honest, mostly I'm only somewhat coherent, so I'm not exactly sure what he does while I attempt to wake up. Sometimes he gets sick of waiting for me to regain consciousness and he begs for me to let him get up, and occasionally I'll give in, letting him get up by himself. I join him when my fear of what he'll do overcomes my exhaustion.

In the time between leaving my bed and me waking up, Matthew has done some interesting things. One morning I came downstairs to find traces of water on the floor and a whole bunch soggy Life cereal in the sink. He later explained to me that his cereal didn't taste very good with water in it instead of milk.

This morning I finally got out of bed after I heard a cute little voice blowing into Seth's baby monitor. Note that Seth's baby monitor is about one foot away from Seth. I didn't want him to wake up Seth, so I yelled downstairs and told him not to wake up Seth. He yelled back, "I'm not, Seth's asleep." Foolishly, I continued to yell to him as I climbed out of bed, trying to explain that Seth would wake up if he kept blowing into the monitor. He also continued to yell, reassuring me that Seth was still asleep. Inevitably, Matthew's tale changed and as I approached he and Seth he yelled (unecessarily) "Seth IS awake." Ugh.

Note to self: Don't let Matthew get up without supervision.

I'm with him. Water is not a great subsitute for milk in cereal! Funny!

Oh, I remember that exact same thing. Caleb has always been an early riser, too. I feel for ya, girl.
